Elliot Hughes is an interdisciplinary media artist from Sydney, Australia. In 2010, she graduated from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours Class 1). Hughes' work primarily involves the creation of interview-based documentary portraits. They employ qualitative research methods typically associated with the social sciences in order to investigate a broad range of topics related to capitalism, architecture and memory, as well as biography and autobiography in the context of documentary film and video. In addition to video art, her work includes photography, architectural installations and site-specific paintings, which relate everyday experience to broader social, cultural and economic processes. Hughes has participated in exhibitions and studio residencies throughout Australia and internationally and is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the Dr Harold Schenberg Art Prize, the Australia Council for the Arts ArtStart Grant, the British Council of Australia "Cityscapers" international scholarship residency at the University of Edinburgh and the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies international residency at the Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi, India. Hughes currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
