Rika Febriyani studies cities. Initially she attended an urban planning undergraduate program and then worked for several private consultant and government agencies. Her work has largely focused on various facets of everyday life in Jakarta. She has documented and analyzed different contestations about how space in the city is used and has attempted to combine research, public art and social activism to implement projects experimenting with public space. She received a postgraduate diploma in Visual Art and Design at the University of South Australia. Currently she works with Rujak Center for Urban Studies (RCUS), an independent institution in Jakarta, on issues of urban environment and community development.
