The Freie Universität MA Visual and Media Anthropology program would like to invite you to our 2018 graduate exhibition Malleable Borders, Shifting Identities!
Through six different installation projects, the exhibition Malleable Borders, Shifting Identities explores spaces and communities of people that blur lines, thereby allowing multiple identities to coexist, as well as constant mobility between such spaces. Through insights about daily activities and the narration of life stories, the six installations offer entry points into the ways in which identity is performed, transgressed, self-represented, negotiated, translated and integrated in contexts such as a religion cult, a South American border zone, a suburban newsroom, a photography workshop, social media profiles and ancestral music making.
The communities of people showcased in this exhibition embrace the unresolved and the imaginary. They operate at a crossroads, on the peripheries, or move freely across borders. The works are comprised of video, sound, photography, artifacts, archival material and interactive platforms and are visual outputs of research carried out by students in the Master of Arts in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin.
The exhibition opens Friday October 5th at 19:00 at Kunstfabrik Flutgraben.
