Samantha Fox is currently a PhD candidate in Anthropology at Columbia University in New York, where her work focuses on the relationship between landscape, urban planning, and cultural memory in the former East Germany, as well as questions of virtuality and how archival materials delimit collective memory. She is also a lecturer of the course Social Anthropology in Virtual Worlds in the MA program in Visual and Media Anthropology at the Freie Universität Berlin, and has lectured on Second Life at the Universität der Künste, Berlin. She received her BA with high honors from Dartmouth College in 2008, where she was a Senior Fellow, and her MA in Visual and Media Anthropology from the Freie Universität Berlin in 2010.

 

She is also a documentary photographer, and has exhibited her work in New York, Berlin, and Oslo, where she was a Norwegian Marshall Fellow in 2009. Her photographs are forthcoming in the book Historicizing the Uses of the Past: Scandinavian Perspectives on History Culture, Historical Consciousness and Didactics of History Related to World War II
