Chris Kirubi

Mr. Kirubi is a leading Kenyan entrepreneur who has interests in various sectors of the economy, ranging from media to real estate, manufacturing, insurance and much more. He is a well–established and recognized media owner as Chairman of the Capital Group; a media firm comprising of a radio station, 98.4 Capital Fm, Capital Digital Media and a TV station, Capital Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). CBC had, until recently, partnered with CNBC Africa to provide news on a free-to-air basis in Kenya and the region. Additionally, the group is making a large footprint in the digital media world with the Capital Fm website being ranked second in Kenya according to the web information company Alexa.

Mr. Kirubi is a graduate of both the Harvard Business School, USA and the INSEAD Institute in France. He has previously worked with two African governments; in Kenya, as a member of the National Economic and Social Council, and in Ghana, not only as the Ghanaian Consul General in Kenya, but also as a Board Member of the Investors’ Advisory Council Ghana. In recognition of his exemplary contributions to positive change in society, he has received two awards; Elder of the Burning Spear of the Republic of Kenya (1999) and the National Order of Merit medal from the French Government (2004) (Source).

Needless to mention that Mr. Kirubi also puts special emphasis on the usage of social media and ICT as a whole for all forms of economic and social communication. As a ‘Citizen Journalist’ Mr. Kirubi contributes to the Capital FM Blog. Last but not least and to complete his multifarious character Mr. Kirubi is also quite a ‘wicked’ DJ – DJ CK.

In 2011 the Forbes Magazine voted Chris Kirubi "one of the twenty most powerful people in African business."

Dr. Bitange Ndemo

Dr. Bitange Ndemo is the Permanent Secretary in the Kenyan Ministry of Information and Communications. Prior to his appointment as Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ndemo was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi’s Business School, where he taught entrepreneurship, management and research methods.  Most of his research work centres on Small and Medium Enterprises in Kenya with emphasis on Social Enterprise. Dr. Ndemo holds a PhD in Industrial Economics from the University of Sheffield in the UK, an MBA and bachelors degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Minnesota. In the early 1990s, he was a Financial Systems Analyst at Medtronic Inc., a Fortune 500 company in the USA. His current position entails policy formulation, and overseeing implementation of ICT projects.   Dr. Ndemo has been involved in initiatives to lower the cost of accessing ICTs (connectivity, hardware and software) in Kenya and the region. His priority has been to connect East Africa to the rest of the World through the under- sea fibre optic cable.  He is at the forefront of developing the demand side of ICTs by actively promoting Business Process Outsourcing in both urban and rural areas.

By virtue of his current position, Dr. Ndemo sits at the Boards of the Postal Corporation of Kenya, Telkom Kenya, Kenya Film Commission, and the Kenya ICT Board. (Source). Besides Dr. Bitange Ndemo is the recipient of the 2009 Association of Kenya Professionals in Atlanta (AKPA) Leadership Award. Dr. Ndemo was presented with the award at the 2nd Kenya Diaspora International Conference and Investment Forum held at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta/USA.
