Fidel Devkota was born in Gorkha and raised in Kathmandu, Capital of Nepal. He studied Science and Business in Nepal and Singapore before joining Film School in 2003. He is also credited for the first independent film movement in Nepal. He moved to Germany for further education after graduating in Film Studies. His films have been screened in various national and international film festivals. After completing his Masters in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universitaet Berlin he was enrolled as PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Urte Undine Froemming at Freie Universität Berlin. He completed his PhD thesis in October 2016. Fidel Devkota is since October 2016 a research fellow in the research area Envioronmental Anthropology and lecturer in the MA program in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin. His main research areas include Environmental Anthropology, Visual Anthropology, Himalayan Anthropology, Climate change and migration. He is based in Kathmandu and Berlin.
